Woman Dies after Faulty Adhesive Causes Tunnel Ceiling to Fall

Milena Del Valle was killed one day as she drove through one of the underground tunnels that are a part of the "big dig" project to moves several Boston highways underground. A three-ton chunk of the ceiling fell onto her car, crushing her inside. The contractors for the project blamed the Power Adhesives Inc company, that manufactured the material that was supposed to hold the ceiling together.

They claimed that they were knowingly sold the wrong grade. The company was charged with involuntary manslaughter and forced to pay $16 million to settle criminal and civil charges. This is a landmark case, as the maximum limit for such a crime is typically set at $1000.
