Massachusetts to Crack Down on Prescription Drug Marketing

Pharmaceutical companies will often give out gifts to physicians and medical professionals to push their medications. These gifts can range from pens with the company's logo, to international airfare. The state Department of Public Health sent out a draft of a list of regulations that makes gifts over $50 in value illegal. This is in an effort to curb the pharmaceutical companies' power over what drugs are prescribed and used. Some organizations, however, are saying that the regulations are still too weak, and should be redrafted to protect consumers.

When it comes to medications, patients should receive the best one on the market- not the one that will buy the doctor a tropical island getaway. If you feel that your physician is being bought out by a pharmaceutical company, it could be bad for your health.
