Massachusetts Passes Law to Protect Road Workers
A recent Massachusetts law requires drivers on multi-lane highways to "slow down and move over" for stopped roadside emergency vehicles. This law was created to decrease the number of deaths and injuries caused by reckless drivers who do not slow down when they see a stopped vehicle. The State Police Association reported that five troopers were involved in some sort of roadside accident in the last five months. Those who are caught breaking this law will pay a ticket of up to $100.
On-the-job injury is part of being an emergency worker, such as a police officer. However, this injury should not be caused by careless driving on the highway. If you or someone you know has been injured along the roadside, while assisting another vehicle, he or she may be able to sue the driver for reckless driving and endangerment.
