Consumers Make the Most of the Holiday Gift Cards

Experts predict that Americans will spend over $60 billion in store gift cards during this holiday season. However, $8 billion of that money will never be spent in the store. Card holders will either throw their cards away or forget about their remaining balances. Massachusetts law states that all money left on non-rechargeable gift cards can be given back to the customer in cash. This allows the consumer to get his or her money's worth, and use the extra cash to stimulate the economy. Some stores have reloadable gift cards, and these cannot be traded in for cash.

Most retailers who offer non-rechargeable cards do not even realize that they can give their customers cash back. That is why it is important for shoppers to point this out to the store. If the store refuses to comply with the customer's wishes, he or she can take more dramatic measures. The law office of Kerstein, Coren & Lichtenstein LLP specialize in business law.
