ACLU Makes Claims Against Massachusetts Police
The American Civil Liberties Union and The Children's Law Center of Massachusetts have recently reported that police and probation officers are throwing children in jail unnecessarily. They are incarcerated when juvenile court is closed, and are being held without bail and in conditions that do not meet state requirements. Many of the minors were arrested for minor infractions and show no threat to the community.
The organizations claim that the unnecessary detention is forcing children deeper and deeper into the criminal justice system, for no reason. The juvenile facilities in which they are being held lack showers, recreational facilities, sufficiently trained staff and female guards for the female prisoners. If your child is being held without bail for a petty crime, you need to stand up for his or her rights. Contact the law office of Kerstein, Coren & Lichtenstein LLP for more information today!
